Canciones para niños was written over a span of several years, ending with the lullabye “Nana” in 2000, which was inspired by the birth of my mentor Mario Abril’s grandson Alex. Selections from the cycle have been performed and recorded beautifully by Matthew Hinsley on his CD Passions Move (2002). The recordings featured here are by two excellent artists in Buenos Aires, Rosana Risé and Sergio Moldavsky, both of whom are on the faculty of the Conservatorio Superior de Música ‘Manuel de Falla.’ This recording was made in November 2004 in Buenos Aires and is featured on the cd Cantabile en Cuerdas (2006).
